Haverhill Malayalee Association

About HMA

From Kerala to Haverhill — bringing people together, preserving our heritage and building our future. Haverhill Malayalee Association (HMA) is a vibrant and welcoming community organisation bringing together Malayalee families and friends in Haverhill, Suffolk, and the surrounding areas. For more than 14 years, HMA has created opportunities for the local Malayalee community to come together, celebrate our rich Kerala heritage and culture, and build lasting friendships across generations. What began as a community brought together through friendship and shared heritage has grown into an active association with a strong commitment to culture, community, family, youth and social wellbeing. 🌿 Celebrating Our Heritage Our calendar is filled with much-loved celebrations and activities that bring our community together, including: Onam • Vishu • Christmas • Music & Dance • Sports • Family Gatherings • Children's Programmes • Community Initiatives Through these activities, we aim to give the next generation an opportunity to understand, experience and take pride in their Malayalee heritage, while growing up in the UK. We believe that keeping our traditions alive is not simply about looking back — it is about passing our heritage forward and giving future generations a strong sense of identity and belonging. 🤝 Our Journey Continues A significant milestone in HMA's journey came in 2025, when we became an official member of the Union of UK Malayalee Associations (UUKMA). UUKMA is a national umbrella organisation supporting Malayalee associations across the United Kingdom and promoting fellowship, cultural exchange, and the artistic, literary and intergenerational needs of the wider Kerala community. Our membership gives HMA the opportunity to: Connect with the wider UK Malayalee community Participate in national and regional initiatives Share experiences and build stronger community networks Create new opportunities for our members Encourage greater participation from our children and young people This is an exciting new chapter in our journey, and we look forward to growing together. 💚 More Than Culture While celebrating Kerala's traditions is at the heart of what we do, HMA is about much more than cultural events. We believe in building a community where people support one another, encourage good citizenship and contribute positively to the wider community. Our constitution reflects our commitment to: Promoting good relationships within a multicultural and multi-faith society, advancing awareness of Indian culture and history, and supporting community members facing hardship or difficulty. We believe that a strong community is one where everyone feels welcome, valued and supported. 🏡 Part of the Haverhill Community Our relationship with Haverhill extends beyond our own community. We are proud to call Haverhill home and want to play an active role in the town's social and cultural life. We look forward to working alongside Haverhill Town Council, local organisations, charities, schools, businesses and other community groups to build stronger connections and contribute positively to the wider community. We believe that by coming together, sharing our culture and working with others, we can make Haverhill an even more connected and welcoming place for everyone. ✨ Our Vision To build a united, inclusive and thriving Malayalee community in Haverhill — proud of our heritage, connected to our community and confident in our future. ❤️ Our Values Culture Celebrating and preserving our rich Kerala heritage.
